Advisors counsel patience as Anthropic's IPO draws lukewarm client demand

Advisors report subdued client interest in Anthropic's planned public offering and favor a patient, long-term approach to buying shares if clients pursue it.

News

WealthManagement.com reported on Oct. 30 that advisors are seeing limited client interest in Anthropic's planned initial public offering. The outlet said advisors are recommending a patient, long-term approach for clients who want to buy shares. The report centers on those advisor conversations rather than on the offering's terms, which remain unset.

The offering is at an early stage. According to Anthropic's own announcement, the company filed a registration statement on Form S-1 with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Oct. 26, 2026, for a proposed offering of Class A common stock to be listed on the Nasdaq under the ticker ANT. The share count and price range had not yet been set. CNBC reported that Anthropic had first filed confidentially with the SEC in June 2026. Press reports have suggested trading could begin as soon as Nov. 16, but no date has been confirmed.

Tech Insider, working from the filing, put first-half 2026 revenue at $16.3 billion and a net loss at $80.7 billion. Those are financial results, not assets under management. WealthManagement.com, based on its own reading of the filing, cited more than $516 billion in obligations to technology providers and $3.9 billion in operating cash flow for the first half of 2026. The $965 billion valuation from Anthropic's Series H round in May is a private funding valuation. Press-reported estimates of $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion and a raise of roughly $100 billion do not appear in the public prospectus, and Anthropic has not confirmed them.

Client demand is the core of the WealthManagement.com report. The co-founder of Birch Financial Group told the outlet that about 10% of the firm's clients had asked about Anthropic, compared with about a quarter who asked about SpaceX. SpaceX offers a recent reference point. WealthManagement.com said SpaceX shares started trading at $135, climbed to a high of $226, and slid to $127 in roughly a month.

Background on the company is drawn from several outlets. According to NPR, Anthropic is about five years old, was started by OpenAI researchers who split off from the company, and is led by Dario Amodei. Commons LLC's commentary said Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley lead a syndicate of more than twenty underwriters. Builtin's explainer said co-founders are set to hold 50.1% of voting power after the offering. Yahoo Finance reported that some insiders would be permitted to sell on the first day of trading. The S-1 further carries a risk disclosure cautioning that powerful AI might create catastrophic or existential hazards.

For context, WealthManagement.com noted that Brett Arends of Morningstar, writing in an Oct. 27 note, likened current conditions to the dot-com era of the late 1990s. InvestmentNews reported on Sept. 16 that clients with concentrated AI positions should plan before an IPO.

The sources do not yet give a pricing range, final share count or confirmed trading date. Advisors will be watching for an amended filing with those terms, and for whether client interest changes once the shares are priced.
