How we report, and how we correct
The rules every story on Financial ADVSR is held to.
What we publish
Financial ADVSR covers the business of wealth management: advisor moves and breakaways, RIA and broker-dealer deals, recruiting, custody and platforms, regulation and the markets. We publish two kinds of content, and we keep them distinct.
- Our own reporting from the Financial ADVSR newsroom, carrying a writer’s byline: news articles, analysis, the Week in Review and Markets in 5.
- The Wire: headlines and the publisher’s own summary from other industry outlets, always named and linked to the original. We never republish another outlet’s article.
How our newsroom works
Financial ADVSR’s newsroom desk uses AI to research and draft stories under our editorial rules. Every claim is checked against its sources before publication, stories that don’t pass are held for an editor, and our editors can correct, rewrite or withdraw anything we publish. The desk grew out of more than a year of applying AI to the wealth management business, and the rules it writes under reflect that work.
Sourcing and attribution
Every fact in our reporting comes from a source we can point to: a firm’s own announcement, a regulatory record (SEC filings, Form ADV, FINRA BrokerCheck, court and agency releases), official data such as the US Treasury’s daily yields, or reporting by another outlet. When a fact comes from another outlet’s reporting, we say so in the story. Sources are listed at the end of each article.
We don’t invent or estimate figures that no source gives, and we’re careful with numbers that are easy to misread: an asset figure is not a purchase price, and we say what a number measures only when a source does.
Checking before we publish
Before publication, every article the newsroom desk drafts, and every Markets in 5, is checked claim by claim against its sources. A story that doesn’t pass is held for an editor rather than published. Stories that name individuals in enforcement matters are held for an editor by default.
Allegations and fairness
Allegations stay allegations. We describe complaints, charges and claims in the terms the record uses (“alleged”, “according to the complaint”) and say what stage a matter is at only when the record does.
Markets coverage is news, not advice
Markets in 5 and our market data report what happened and why. We don’t forecast prices, recommend securities or tell readers or their clients what to do. Market prices are delayed. Nothing on Financial ADVSR is investment advice.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it. When a published article is corrected or materially changed, it shows the time it was updated. To report an error, contact the editors with the link to the story and what needs correcting.
News submissions
We welcome verified announcements: moves, deals and firm news that is on the record. We don’t publish anonymous tips or confidential information. Submit news.
Advertising
Advertising and sponsorship never decide what we cover or how. Sponsored material, if we run it, will be clearly labelled as such. Advertise with us.
