Citywire RIA reported on October 30, 2026 that Captrust has acquired a $1.1 billion RIA in the Pacific Northwest. Captrust's own announcement, issued October 29, named the firm as Pacific Sage Partners, a registered investment adviser based in Edmonds, Washington. Captrust's own announcement, issued October 29, described the same transaction and said the Pacific Sage Partners team has joined the firm.
Citywire's summary placed the deal within a busy year for Captrust, which it described as one of the largest RIAs. It noted that the firm had most recently added a team with about $3 billion in assets earlier that month in North Carolina, and that other additions this year have included a deal of roughly $1.3 billion.
According to Wealth Management, the eight-person team is led by founder and CEO Mark Anderson and will operate under the Captrust brand. A Captrust spokesperson told WealthSolutionsReport that the transaction closed on September 30, 2026, a date that precedes the October 29 announcement. Captrust's head of M&A, Mike Wunderli, said the firm has no specific timetable for entering any one market.
Regulatory filings describe Pacific Sage Partners as an SEC-registered investment adviser organised as a Washington LLC, with an office at 505 5th Avenue South in Edmonds. Its Form ADV brochure, dated July 2024, says the firm was founded in June 2021 and launched as an RIA in March 2022. Captrust's release and Wealth Management place the RIA's founding in 2022. The brochure says Anderson owns and runs the firm and reports no legal or disciplinary events for him, and it names William Cantus as president and chief compliance officer. Wealth Management reported that Anderson's career included roughly 19 years at Edward Jones, followed by around eight years at Tradewinds Capital Management in Shoreline, Washington, where he served as a managing principal. A separate profile gives a longer Tradewinds tenure, so that figure remains unconfirmed.
Captrust is headquartered at 4208 Six Forks Road in Raleigh, North Carolina, according to its LinkedIn company profile, where the firm presents itself as ranking among the biggest independent businesses in the country offering retirement plan and investment advice. Wealth Management reported that Captrust was founded in 1997 and registered as an RIA in 2003. A spokesperson said the firm had more than 2,020 employees and more than 870 advisors after the Pacific Sage Partners deal. FinanceX Magazine reported that GTCR bought a 25% stake in Captrust in 2020 at a $1.25 billion valuation, and that Carlyle joined in 2023 at a valuation above $3.7 billion. Unbiased reported that Captrust had $1.24 trillion in total client assets as of December 31, 2025.
The Pacific Sage Partners deal is Captrust's tenth announced acquisition of 2026, according to FA Magazine. MarshBerry, as reported by PlanAdviser, counted four Captrust acquisitions between January 31 and May 14, 2026 worth about $8.28 billion in AUM combined. Captrust announced a $300 million Raleigh team on October 21, according to FA Magazine, and in May it added Stillwater Capital Advisors of Devon, Pennsylvania, with $1.25 billion in assets, according to a PR Newswire release.
Figures for Pacific Sage Partners differ across sources. A third-party database built on a March 2026 Form ADV filing reports regulatory AUM of about $986 million, a number that has not been checked against the SEC's adviser database. The $1.1 billion figure is the one Captrust gave. The sources reviewed do not disclose the price or deal structure. FinanceX described the average transaction in the sector as hovering around $1 billion in client assets, and described the general model in which acquired advisers become employees while the parent takes on compliance, HR, technology and back-office functions. FinanceX did not say that model applies to this deal.
Captrust has not said which markets it will target next, and the sources reviewed do not indicate whether further Pacific Northwest deals are planned. The next signals will be the firm's Form ADV updates, which should show how the Pacific Sage Partners assets and team are reported once integration is complete.
