RBC hires ex-Raymond James manager as Texas South complex director

Shawn Bernhard, who led a Raymond James branch in Tucson, joins RBC Wealth Management to work with advisors in Texas and Louisiana, InvestmentNews reported.

Moves

InvestmentNews reported on October 23 that RBC Wealth Management has hired Shawn Bernhard as complex director for its Texas South region. In the role, Bernhard will work with advisors in Texas and Louisiana. The appointment moves a Raymond James veteran into a leadership post at one of RBC's regional complexes.

According to AdvisorHub, Bernhard had led a Raymond James & Associates branch in Tucson, Arizona, before leaving to oversee RBC's Texas South market, which is based in Houston. An RBC spokesperson told AdvisorHub that the territory includes advisors in Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Sugar Land and New Orleans. Accounts of the timing differ across outlets, so this article relies on InvestmentNews' October 23 date for the announcement.

Bernhard's career history was drawn from BrokerCheck, which AdvisorHub cited as showing a May 2025 move to Raymond James after roughly 16 years at UBS Wealth Management USA. InvestmentNews reported that Bernhard held several leadership posts at UBS, including oversight of major markets in Arizona.

The appointment fills a role left open when Scott Skinner moved in November 2025 to lead RBC's Mountain South division, according to AdvisorHub. In a statement cited by AdvisorHub, Skinner, the Mountain South divisional director, said Bernhard builds high-performing teams and drives growth.

RBC Wealth Management-U.S. is a division of RBC Capital Markets, LLC, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Bank of Canada. The firm's website puts its U.S. client assets at $769 billion, with more than 2,200 financial advisors, as of May 28, 2026. That figure measures client assets rather than assets under management.

InvestmentNews placed the hire in the context of RBC's recent run of taking large advisor teams from UBS over the past year. InvestmentNews also covered Carol Mani Johnston, who had managed $300 million at UBS before moving to RBC's San Antonio branch alongside the Evergreen Private Wealth Group, a unit the outlet said oversees more than $1 billion. Financial-Planning reported that the Ellsworth Fair Wealth Management Group joined RBC's Houston Memorial branch in the Texas South Complex after previously managing $670 million at Baird.

AdvisorHub noted that RBC has been recruiting veteran advisors in Texas this year, and the Bernhard hire adds a senior regional leader to that effort. The sources do not describe further hires or changes to the Texas South leadership structure, so no next steps are reported here.
