Northern Trust Wealth Management has hired Beth Emswiler from Citi Private Bank and Andrew Borner from BNY as senior managing directors, InvestmentNews reported on October 5, 2026. The appointments extend the private bank's push for ultra-high-net-worth clients in the Northeast.
Emswiler is based in New York. According to InvestmentNews, she was most recently head of investments for Metro New York at Citi Private Bank, where she oversaw investment solutions for ultra-high-net-worth clients and family offices. Her career spans more than 30 years, with leadership roles in private banking, equities, sales and trading, capital markets and investment advisory.
Borner is based in Greenwich, Connecticut. InvestmentNews reported that he was BNY's market president for Connecticut and Long Island. He also has more than 30 years in the business. At BNY he was responsible for new business development and worked directly with individuals, families, trusts and foundations to build and carry out investment and wealth plans.
The hires follow other recent additions in the region. InvestmentNews said the announcement came the week after Northern Trust added two senior hires to its Family Office Solutions team in New York. A Northern Trust announcement carried by Business Wire via FinancialContent identified those hires as Senior Relationship Managers Gloria Fieldcamp and James Le Rose, and described the Emswiler and Borner appointments as building on that momentum.
InvestmentNews reported that Northern Trust has spent roughly 18 months building out Family Office Solutions. The unit offers ultra-wealthy families family-office services without the cost of running their own operation.
On the firm's scale, a Northern Trust release published by CityBiz said Northern Trust Wealth Management had $534 billion in assets under management as of June 30, 2026. The company reported $20 trillion in assets under custody and administration as of the same date. It was founded in Chicago in 1889 and operates in 24 U.S. states and Washington, D.C., plus 22 locations across Canada, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.
The sources did not say how much business either executive manages or is expected to bring, or what compensation arrangements were involved.
