WealthManagement.com reported that Modera Wealth Management, based in Westwood, N.J., has rolled out Mira, an AI platform the outlet said was developed over two years with OnTrade. The outlet described Modera as an RIA overseeing $20 billion in assets, a figure that measures client assets under management rather than revenue or price. Modera announced the launch in its own press release on Oct. 21, 2026.
Modera's release describes Mira as a firm-built agentic AI system, the product of two years of effort spanning operations, technology leadership, data overhaul, and governance of data and AI. The firm says the platform has been available across the firm since July 2026. WealthManagement.com summarized its aims as automating operational tasks, surfacing business opportunities and supporting acquisitions.
The two accounts differ on who built the system. WealthManagement.com said Mira was developed with OnTrade. Modera's announcement credits its in-house technology group, headed by President Joe McCuine, with creating Mira, and says OnTrade is supplying the AI layer that runs underneath it. The two companies are developing digital agents for planning, proposals and investment research. Modera says those agents will act only with appropriate human approvals, and that a working group will review and validate the data inside the platform.
According to the release, Mira is also meant to support Modera's acquisition strategy, because firms that join Modera can move their data onto a common platform.
Modera's registration records and firm materials give a consistent basic profile. The SEC's adviser search lists Modera Wealth Management, LLC with CRD number 155649 and shows its registration as approved with an effective date of Nov. 16, 2010. The firm's 2026 Form 13F filing gives its address as 56 Jefferson Avenue in Westwood. Modera's website dates the firm's origins to 1983, when an earlier company it descends from became one of the country's early fee-only advisers. Tom Orecchio is chief executive, according to the release, and the firm says it serves more than 6,300 clients.
The asset figure is the main point of disagreement. WealthManagement.com's $20 billion is not matched by Modera's own recent releases. An August 2026 release cited $17.5 billion as of Dec. 31, 2025, and a 2025 release cited $15 billion as of Dec. 31, 2024. Third-party profiles also vary: AdvisorSearch reports $17.7 billion, SmartAsset lists about $17.7 billion, and Unbiased reports over $15 billion as of Dec. 31, 2024. Advisor counts differ from 106 to 121 depending on the source. Ownership is unsettled too. Modera's 2025 release says the firm is majority owned by employee shareholders, while an older MagnifyMoney review named Modera Capital Inc. as majority owner, with Tria Asset Holdings and individuals holding stakes. Formation dates also differ, with one source citing 2010 and SmartAsset citing 2011, when it says the firm was formed through a merger of Black Bay Financial Group and Modera Capital.
According to its website, OnTrade is headquartered in Seattle and positions itself as AI-native technology for wealth managers. Its legal name is OnTrade Inc. TechFlier reported that Raji Subramanian and Matt Williams launched the company with backing from General Catalyst and Madrona, and that Zachary Harl, formerly of Pro.com's data science team, joined as chief investment officer. GeekWire reported that Harl was earlier chief investment officer at Bank of America, that Jean Bredeche, who co-founded Quantopian, is chief technology officer, and that the startup had operated under the radar since 2024. GeekWire also reported that the amount raised is undisclosed. WealthManagement.com notes that OnTrade was founded by former Pro.com executives.
According to GeekWire, OnTrade links the CRM, portfolio accounting, trading and compliance tools that firms already run into a single interface, and people sign off on outputs before clients see them.
WealthManagement.com said Modera is the latest RIA to introduce a proprietary AI-native operating platform. It cited Connecticut Wealth Management, an independent RIA with $5.2 billion in AUM, which hired Subatomic in a five-year partnership to build an AI operating system. No timeline for the planned agents or the data review is given in the coverage reviewed.
