Larry Raffone takes executive chairman role at Aligned Wealth, the RIA his son leads

WealthManagement.com reported that Larry Raffone, former CEO of Edelman, is joining the tech-forward firm his son Nick leads as president and CFO, alongside founders Gregory Pool and Pat Dwyer.

Moves

WealthManagement.com reported on November 3, 2026 that Larry Raffone, former CEO of Edelman Financial Services, has joined Aligned Wealth as a founding partner and executive chairman. The career-moves item describes Aligned as a tech-forward registered investment advisor. Financial ADVSR did not find a separate announcement from the firm, so the details below rest on that report and on the background sources noted in this article.

According to WealthManagement.com, Aligned was co-founded by Gregory Pool and Pat Dwyer, two former NewEdge Wealth executives. The firm is affiliated with NewEdge, which provides Aligned with operational, administrative and technology support. The same report says Nick Raffone, Larry Raffone's son, was appointed president and CFO. The report does not give Aligned's assets under management, client count or advisor headcount.

A 2025 Business Wire release announcing Nick Raffone as chief financial officer of Vise, an AI-powered platform, said he had previously been a managing director at New Fortress Energy. The same release said Vise's platform assets had surpassed $15 billion. That announcement predates his appointment at Aligned and does not describe the Aligned role.

WealthManagement.com reported that Larry Raffone framed the firm around what families should expect now that technology has caught up, rather than around building a better version of what already exists. He cited fair pricing in writing, decisions that are explained to clients, and no proprietary products of its own to sell. According to the same report, Raffone met Dwyer at an industry conference in Napa, California, while in retirement, and later met Pool in Miami. The three found they shared views on artificial intelligence and the future of the business.

Finnotes lists Raffone as CEO of Edelman Financial Engines from 2012 to 2023 and chairman since 2023, and says he was an executive vice president at Fidelity from 1998 to 2001. The firm appears in some coverage under the Edelman Financial Engines name. RIABiz reported in July 2023 that Raffone was pushed out of the CEO role on May 31, 2023, while retaining a substantial ownership stake and remaining chairman. The same outlet reported that the firm hired Jay Shah, then 53 and based in San Francisco, to succeed him. Citywire has also reported that Raffone joined the board of Vise as an advisor as that startup pushed into serving RIA aggregators.

NewEdge Wealth is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, and launched in December 2020, according to a WealthManagement.com roundup. NewEdge's own release describes it as a division of NewEdge Capital Group, which supports more than 300 financial advisors, and says NewEdge Capital Group is the wealth management unit of EdgeCo Holdings LP, which has more than 700 employees. CNBC has described Aligned as a Miami-based firm operating as Aligned by NewEdge Wealth, with Dwyer listed as managing director.

Wealth Solutions Report reported in 2023 that Pool joined NewEdge's Miami office as a managing director from Wellington Management, where he had worked since 2000 and held the roles of partner and senior managing director. NewEdge's website says Dwyer joined the firm in 2021 as a managing director and that his team opened a Brickell office in Miami. AdvisorHub reported earlier that Dwyer had joined NewEdge from Boston Private Wealth, after leaving Merrill Lynch in 2019.

Founder-led RIAs that add a former large-firm executive as chairman are a familiar pattern in the wealth channel. Advisors and teams weighing a move will want to see how a firm of this kind discloses fees, assets and staffing as it grows. The sources reviewed for this article do not give Aligned's launch date, assets or headcount, so those figures remain open until the firm or an industry outlet reports them.
