RIAs are usually valued as a multiple of normalized EBITDA. Enter revenue, margin and a multiple to see a headline value and how it splits between cash, buyer equity and earnout.
Questions
What multiple do RIAs sell for?
Advisor Growth Strategies put the median RIA deal at 11.6 times EBITDA across 60 transactions in 2025, up from 11.0 times in 2024. The multiple a firm gets depends on its size, organic growth, client base and reliance on its founders.
Why EBITDA and not revenue?
Buyers price on earnings after normalizing owner pay and one-time costs; a revenue multiple is effectively the EBITDA multiple scaled by the firm’s margin, so it is mostly a rough check for small practices.
Is the whole price paid in cash?
Usually not. Equity in the buyer averaged 29% of deal value in 2025 among Advisor Growth Strategies survey respondents, and earnouts tie part of the price to results after closing.
