Who qualifies

US-based, SEC-registered investment advisers that manage at least half of their regulatory assets for individuals and high-net-worth individuals, offer financial planning, are not themselves broker-dealers, and hold less than half their assets in wrap programs they sponsor or manage (the test behind our RIA profiles). That leaves out wirehouse and broker-dealer advisory arms and managed-account platforms. 5,657 firms qualify; this list shows the 100 largest.

How firms are ordered

By regulatory assets under management as reported in each firm's latest Form ADV. Figures are as of each firm's last annual update, so they can lag recent deals and market moves, and regulatory assets can differ from the assets a firm markets.

Independence

No one pays to be considered for or included in an ADVSR ranking. Financial ADVSR does not charge nominees, honorees or their firms, and inclusion is not tied to advertising.

The list measures what this page describes and nothing more. It is not a recommendation of any advisor or firm, says nothing about whether one suits a particular person, and is not based on client reviews or investment performance. See our editorial standards.
