Who qualifies

US-based, SEC-registered investment advisers that manage at least half of their regulatory assets for individuals and high-net-worth individuals, offer financial planning and are not themselves broker-dealers, that filed annual updating amendments for fiscal 2024 and 2025 and reported $1 billion or more in regulatory assets in the fiscal 2024 filing. 877 firms qualified.

How firms are ordered

By the percentage change in regulatory assets under management (Form ADV Item 5.F) between the two annual updates. Regulatory assets include market gains, acquisitions and assets moved in from affiliated advisers as well as new clients, so fast growers are often acquirers or firms that consolidated affiliates into one registration.
