How we counted

From the SEC’s monthly list of registered investment advisers (Form ADV). Independent wealth managers are SEC-registered advisers based in the US whose individual and high-net-worth clients hold at least half of regulatory assets, that offer financial planning and aren’t part of a broker-dealer. Changes compare each firm’s latest filing with the one on the previous month’s list; firms whose filing didn’t change are left out.
