How we built this

The Moves tracker reads the wealth management industry press throughout the day and records each advisor move and firm deal a story reports: the team, the firms on each side, the location and the client assets, using only facts stated in the coverage. The same move reported by several outlets is counted once. Assets are as reported at the time of the move, usually the team’s assets under management at its old firm.

What it doesn’t show

  • Moves nobody reports. Most individual advisor moves never make the press, so these numbers are a floor, not an industry total.
  • Assets for every move: many reported moves don’t disclose them. Net figures count only disclosed assets.
  • Whether clients followed. Reported assets are what the team managed before it moved.
