InvestmentNews reported that Richmond advisors Sam Mintz and Steve Gow joined Raymond James after managing more than $1.2 billion at Truist, and FA Magazine and BrokerCheck place the move in September.

InvestmentNews reported that two Richmond advisors who hold the CFP and CFA credentials have moved from Truist to Raymond James. According to FA Magazine, the pair are managing directors of the Mintz & Gow Group of Raymond James in Richmond, Virginia. InvestmentNews described the move as bringing planning and markets expertise together under a new Richmond practice.

Raymond James said the pair managed more than $1.2 billion in client assets at Truist Investment Services before the move. That figure measures client assets, not revenue or fees. The duo joined Raymond James & Associates, the firm's employee advisor channel in the Mid-Atlantic region. According to FA Magazine, BrokerCheck and Raymond James both place the move in September.

According to the Raymond James announcement, the duo's clients include households, company owners and nonprofits, which receive planning and investment help from them. Client service associates Cheryl Franz and Donna Minkeson-Shaw support the group, FA Magazine reported.

FA Magazine also provided background on the two advisors. Sam Mintz has more than 24 years in the business. Steve Gow became an advisor in 2014 after 12 years at BB&T Scott & Stringfellow, the firm now known as Truist Investment Services.

Raymond James is headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida, according to Wikipedia, and its shares are listed on the NYSE under the symbol RJF, with the company public since 1983 according to SEC filings. Raymond James reported record net new assets for its most recent fiscal year, which it linked to its recruiting, according to FA Magazine. Public reference material also says that in January 2026 the firm agreed to acquire Clark Capital Management Group, which has more than $46 billion in assets under management, with completion expected by the third quarter of 2026 subject to regulatory approval.

Truist is described by Yahoo Finance as a large regional bank that provides banking and trust services across the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states. Panabee reported that Jeff Dunn and Bryan Cram are interim co-heads of Truist Wealth, reporting to Kristin Lesher. Third-party IAPD aggregation data cited by DFX Intel shows that Truist Advisory Services, CRD 283390, had 89 advisors in its Richmond office over the prior 12 months, with 6 joining, 7 leaving and 2 teams departing.

Earlier Truist-to-Raymond James moves include a Roanoke pair managing more than $200 million that went to the firm's employee channel, now the Arney Group, which InvestmentNews covered. FA Magazine reported a Florida trio with $430 million joining Raymond James Financial Services through Fortuna Wealth. Pulse2 reported that Longwater Haffey Group, based in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, brought about $700 million from Truist Investment Services.

The sources do not say how the Mintz & Gow Group's client arrangements will change under the new affiliation, or whether Truist has commented on the departure.

Key facts:
- Raymond James said the pair managed more than $1.2 billion in client assets at Truist Investment Services
- The duo joined Raymond James & Associates in September, according to BrokerCheck and Raymond James
- Sam Mintz has more than 24 years in the business
- Steve Gow became an advisor in 2014 after 12 years at BB&T Scott & Stringfellow
- Raymond James is headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida, and is listed on the NYSE as RJF

Why it matters: Teams with established books of client assets are a steady source of recruiting activity for large broker-dealers, and moves from bank-based platforms like Truist often draw attention from other firms in the same markets. For advisors weighing a move, the Mintz & Gow case shows a Mid-Atlantic duo choosing an employee channel within a large broker-dealer. For firm leaders, the cluster of Truist-to-Raymond James moves in the same period is a signal of where competing platforms are recruiting.
